Today, Monday is the 16th day of the wrestlers’ strike in Delhi demanding the arrest of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Brij Bhushan Singh. Members of Khap Panchayats have also joined this dharna going on at Jantar Mantar from today. Khap representatives will also help the players in maintaining order here.

In the mahapanchayat of Khap leaders of Haryana, Western UP and Rajasthan held at Jantar Mantar on Sunday, the wrestlers’ dharna was supported. Farmers organizations of Punjab also participated in this mahapanchayat. After the mahapanchayat, farmer leader Rakesh Tikait had told that this movement will be run by the players’ committee, but each khap will send 11-11 members to Jantar Mantar daily in support of the wrestlers. These people will be with the players from morning till evening.

In the Khap Mahapanchayat, the government was given an ultimatum till May 20 to take action against Brijbhushan Singh. If Brij Bhushan is not arrested, then a big decision will be taken by calling a mahapanchayat again on May 21.

Meanwhile, the Haryana Amateur Wrestling Association (HWA) has suspended the secretaries of district wrestling units of Jhajjar, Nuh and Hisar in the state. This action was taken due to violation of the guidelines of the Federation and going to Jantar Mantar in support of the wrestlers sitting on the dharna.

HWA State President Rohtas Nandal issued the order suspending Jhajjar District Wrestling Association Secretary Virender Singh Dalal, Hisar District Wrestling Association Secretary Sanjay Singh Malik and Mewat District Wrestling Association Secretary Jai Bhagwan. HWA State President Rohtas Nandal and General Secretary Rakesh belong to the faction of WFI President Brij Bhushan Singh.

On behalf of HWA State President Rohtas Nandal, it was said that the activities going on in favor of the wrestlers sitting on strike are unethical and against the purpose and rules of WFI. Since these three office bearers have been suspended, all district associations are requested not to involve them in any activity organized by HWA. No activity will be organized in their akhadas, academies and schools.

Mirchpur’s wrestling academy suspended

HWA state president Rohtash Nandal also suspended the Bhagat Singh Wrestling Academy of Mirchpur in Hisar district. The operators of the academy are accused of taking the younger wrestlers to protest. HWA has also banned the directors of this academy, Ajay Singh Dhanda and Jai Bhagwan Lather.

The HWA banned the academy and both its operators with immediate effect and advised all district units not to involve them in any activity as they have nurseries/centres of Haryana Sports Department as well as SAI.

Support of 4 women’s organizations to wrestlers
Four national women’s organizations have jointly called for a nationwide protest for the immediate arrest of Haryana minister Sandeep Singh, accused of molesting WFI president Brij Bhushan Singh and a junior women coach. In a statement, the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), the National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW), the All India Women’s Cultural Organization (AIMSS) and the All India Forward-looking Women’s Organization (AIMS) expressed solidarity with the wrestlers.
