A CBI inquiry will be conducted into the train accident that took place in Odisha on Friday evening. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav gave this information in a press conference in Balasore on Sunday evening. After taking stock of the accident site on Sunday morning, the Railway Minister had said – The accident happened due to change in electronic interlocking. Those responsible have also been identified.

Shortly after this statement of the Railway Minister, Railway Board’s Operation and Business Development Member Jaya Verma said after the press conference in Delhi – Initially it seems that there was a fault in the signal.

Youth found unconscious in the bushes
A passenger was found alive from the spot on Sunday night, 48 hours after the accident. At the time of the accident, he got out of the bogie and fell unconscious in the bushes. The youth has been identified as Dilal, a resident of Assam. He was immediately rescued and sent for treatment, where he regained consciousness. His phone and wallet went missing in the incident.

Odisha government said – 277 lives were lost in the accident, not 288
Here, Odisha Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena claimed on Sunday morning that not 288 but 275 people had died in the accident. He said that some bodies were counted twice, due to which there was a discrepancy in the death toll. 1175 people were injured in the accident, out of which 793 have been discharged after treatment.

On this, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had said that the list of those who lost their lives in the accident is increasing with us, but it is decreasing with them. 162 people of West Bengal have lost their lives in the accident. Till now the complete list has not been found. Many such people also travel who are not in the list. 182 bodies have not yet been identified.

In the press conference on Sunday evening, the Railway Minister said that the track work on the two main lines has been completed. Work is going on on the power lines. The injured are being treated well in the hospitals. Efforts are on to contact the relatives of those who were injured or lost their lives in the accident.

Member of Railway Board said – only one train had an accident
Railway Board member Jaya Verma said on Sunday that only the Coromandel Express had an accident. At that time the speed of the train was 128 km/h. The goods train did not derail after the collision. Since iron was loaded in the goods train. That’s why the Coromandel Express suffered the most. Because of this many people lost their lives.

Railway officials had told that a goods train was standing on the outer line of Bahanga Bazar station. The Coromandel Express going from Howrah to Chennai derailed here and collided with a goods train. The engine of the express overturned the goods train and the bogies fell onto the third track. The Bengaluru-Howrah Express coming on the third track hit the coaches of the Coromandel Express.

1. The middle track is the up main line on which the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express was coming.

2. There was a common loop line near the Up main line, on which the goods train was standing. Some coaches of the Coromandel Express were thrown away after hitting the goods train. Some coaches also fell on the down main line.

3. The top down is the main line. The Bangalore-Howrah Superfast Express passed from here. The coaches of the Coromandel Express were also lying on this track. The Bangalore-Howrah train collided with these coaches.

First there was news of train derailment, then information about collision was received.
An hour after the accident, the news of a train derailment came in Balasore at around 8 pm. After this, it was known that the second train was derailed. At around 10 pm, it became clear that two passenger trains and a goods train had collided. Initially, there was information about 30 people killed, but late in the night this figure crossed 200.

There was a difference of 3 hours between the two trains reaching Bahanaga station, but they came together.
Train No. 12864 Bengaluru – Howrah Superfast Express departed from Yesvantpur station in Bengaluru at 7:30 am on June 1. It was to reach Howrah on June 2 at around 8 pm. It reached Bhadrak at 06:30, with a delay of 3.30 hours from its scheduled time. The next station was Balasore, where the train was scheduled to reach at 7:52, with a delay of 4 hours.

Whereas, train number 12841 Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express left Howrah at 3:20 pm on June 2 itself. It reaches Chennai Central at 4:50 pm on 3 June. It reached Balasore on time at 6:37 PM. The next station was Bhadrak where the train was supposed to reach at 7:40 pm, but around 7 pm both the trains passed face to face near Bahanaga Bazar station, when the accident happened.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached the spot around 4 pm on Saturday. He also met the injured in the hospital. He said that whoever is guilty of the accident will not be spared. We will take lessons from this incident and rectify the system. US President Joe Biden has expressed grief over the incident. The White House issued a press release saying – Our sympathies are with the victims of the accident.

14 years, same time of Friday, when Coromandel Express derailed in Odisha itself
Coromandel Express was the victim of a similar accident 14 years ago i.e. on 13 February 2009. It is a matter of coincidence that that accident also happened around 7:30 in the evening. The train was going towards Jajpur railway station. During this, it went on the wrong track and its 8 bogies were overturned. 16 passengers were killed and more than 40 were injured in the accident.
