A strange case was listed in the Supreme Court on Monday. The parents of a man convicted of rape have petitioned that the child born to the girl raped by their son be handed over to them.

CJI DY Chandrachud was enraged after hearing the petition with this strange demand. Rejecting the petition, he said – is there any limit to the petitions coming here or not.

Read what happened in the court room

Taking the petition of the parents of the rapist, his lawyer reached the court room. The bench of Justice Narasimha and CJI DY Chandrachud was conducting the hearing. When the lawyer read the petition, the CJI reprimanded and said- Your son is in jail on rape charges and you want that child to be handed over to you?

After this the lawyer said – this demand is being made for the welfare of the child. Justice Narasimha said on this – you know what you are saying?

CJI Chandrachud said- There should be some limit to the petitions coming in the Supreme Court, the petition is dismissed.

Social media users said – why waste even 2 minutes on this

As soon as the matter of such demand and filing of petition in the Supreme Court came to light, the social media users were also seen angry. One user wrote – Then the same question why SC spends even 2 minutes straight. Why not limit it to cases that may not come directly. If SC always has hearing time then what is the point of Lower or High Court.

Another user wrote – Well being of the child, damn it. He already made one a demon from his upbringing. Now want to destroy another life? They only want the custody of the child so as to pressurize the girl to withdraw the case. Kudos to the Supreme Court for taking a strong decision.
