In Kolar near Bengaluru, Karnataka, Rahul Gandhi had said in an election meeting that why all thieves have Modi as their surname. A complaint was lodged by BJP MLA and former Gujarat minister Purnesh Modi on Rahul’s statement regarding Modi’s surname. A court in Surat is going to pronounce its verdict on March 23 in this defamation case.
According to Rahul’s lawyer Kirit Panwala, the court of CJM HH Verma fixed March 23 for the verdict after hearing the final arguments of both the sides last Friday.
Rahul Gandhi will have to be present in the court during the verdict. That’s why Rahul has left for Surat from Delhi on Thursday morning.
First know what is the matter
Before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, during a rally in Kolar, Karnataka, Rahul had said in his speech that the surname of thieves is Modi. Why do all thieves have the surname Modi, whether it is Lalit Modi or Nirav Modi or Narendra Modi. During the hearing of this case, Rahul Gandhi appeared in the court three times. During the last appearance of October 2021, he told himself innocent.
Purnesh had said – will fight till the last breath
MLA Purnesh Modi, who filed the case, said that Rahul Gandhi had called our society a thief. Allegations were leveled against us in the election meeting, which hurt our sentiments and that of the society. That’s why we brought this matter to the court. We will fight till the last breath. We have full faith in the judiciary.
However, Rahul Gandhi’s counsel had argued that Purnesh Modi should not have been the complainant as an aggrieved party in the case, as most of Rahul Gandhi’s speeches were targeted at the Prime Minister and not Purnesh Modi.
Such is the preparation in Surat for the verdict on Rahul
- Surat Congress workers have made preparations to burst crackers when the verdict is in favor of Rahul Gandhi. During this, Amit Chavda and Congress state chief Jagdish Thakur have said that if the decision comes against Rahul Gandhi, they will protest. If the verdict is in favor, crackers will be burst.
- Rahul Gandhi will reach Surat airport at 10 am. After that Magdalla Char Rasta, SVNIT Char Rasta, Parle Point will reach the court at 11 am. Workers will stand at various places to welcome him. Congress has already put up flags on the roads. About 150 Surat police personnel will be engaged in security arrangements.
- On the other hand, Congress city deputy chief Harish Suryavanshi told that all the workers have been asked to be ready. All the allegations leveled against Rahul Gandhi are false. We all are with him. If the decision comes against them, then the leaders and workers will be ready for fierce agitation.
- Gujarat in-charge Raghu Sharma said that Rahul Gandhi was harassed in this way earlier also. This is not a political program, so he has not yet fixed any formal program to meet the workers.
