The Aam Aadmi Party has supported the Uniform Civil Code. AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak said, ‘We support it, but for this a consensus should be made by consulting people of all religions, political parties and organizations.’ A day before this, PM Modi had advocated Uniform Civil Code.

Why this news is important: The 22nd Law Commission has sought comments from the general public, institutions and religious organizations on UCC. Till now 8.5 lakh responses have also been received. If a bill regarding UCC is introduced in the Parliament, it would need a two-thirds majority to pass. The NDA has 330 MPs in the Lok Sabha, while the Rajya Sabha has 110 MPs.
