Recently new Chief Ministers of Gujarat and Himachal have taken oath. Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel is 60 years old, while the average age of the state is only 29 years. Similarly, Himachal CM Sukhwinder Singh is 58 years old and the average age of the state is only 28, that is, there is a difference of about 30 years.

This picture is not only of two states, but the average age of the Chief Ministers of our 30 states is 61 years, while the average age of no state is above 35. The average age of 11 BJP chief ministers is 57 years, which is lower than the average age of chief ministers of the Congress and regional parties.

The average age of the MPs of the 17th Lok Sabha is also around 55. Interestingly, Kerala, which has the highest average age in the country (35), also has the country’s oldest CM (77). At the same time, the age of the Chief Minister of Bihar with the lowest average age (22) is also above 70 years.

  • The average age of 3 Congress Chief Ministers (Ashok Gehlot, Bhupesh Baghel and Sukhwinder Singh) is 63 years.
  • 15 states have chief ministers from regional parties. Their average age is 62 years. Among them Hemant Soren (47) of Jharkhand is the youngest.
