Voting will be held on 60 assembly seats in Meghalaya on February 27. Before this, there is a lot of discussion about the names of the candidates who have entered the election field in the state. In fact, candidates with names like Nehru Suiting, Firstborn Manor, Ian Botham, Moonlight and Sunshine are contesting here.

The Congress has fielded Nehru Sutting as its candidate from the Pinarsla seat in East Khasi Hills. Whose name includes the surname of India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. On the other hand, BJP has fielded Firstborn Manor from Amalaram seat and Ian Botham K., a candidate named after the famous cricketer of NPP Salmanpara seat. Sangma has been fielded.

Leaders with names like Moonlight and Firstborn in fray
Independent candidate Generus Paisley is in the fray from Nartiang in West Jaintia Hills. United Democratic Party’s (UDP) Moonlight Pariyat and National People’s Party (NPP) senior leader Coming One Yamban are contesting from Jowai seat in the same district. In Amalaram constituency, the BJP has fielded Firstborn Manor. He is the first child of his parents, hence he was named Firstborn.

On the other hand, the National People’s Party (NPP) has fielded a candidate named after England’s famous cricketer Ian Botham from Salmanpara seat in South West Garo Hills district. Sangma has been fielded. The BJP has fielded Navambarth Ch Marak from the Chokpot seat. BJP has fielded Jetha Maner from Amalrem seat.

UDP nominates Sunshine Makri in Umsining
Sanmoon Marak is the candidate of the RPI (A) party led by Union Minister Ramdas Athawale in Jirang in Ri Bhoi district. Independent candidate forecaster Nongrang is contesting from the same constituency. The United Democratic Party (UDP) has fielded Sunshine Makri in Umsining in Ri Bhoi district.

The BJP candidate from Mawringkneng in East Khasi Hills is Highlander Kharnalki. Process T Sawmey is the UDP candidate from Mavalai. Brightstarvel Marbaniang from Voice of the People’s Party, Shubh Lyngdoh from Mawphlang People’s Democratic Front are in the fray.

Councilor Mukhim on BJP ticket from Mawkinru, Fortinson Lingkhoi from Congress in Mawthraishan, UDP candidate Polestar Nongsij from Nongstoin in West Khasi Hills district. Whereas, TMC is contesting from Maukirwat seat in Soundar Kazi South West Khasi Hills district.

Voting on 27 February, counting on 2 March
Voting for the Meghalaya Assembly elections will be held on February 27 and the results will be out on March 2. If we talk about the last assembly elections, then BJP fielded its candidates on 47 seats and it won only two seats. On the other hand, in seven seats of the state, BJP candidates were in second place and in 12 seats, BJP candidates were in third place.

Meghalaya Legislative Assembly: Seats- 60, Majority- 31
Elections were held on 59 seats in Meghalaya in 2018. The Congress had won the maximum 21 seats. BJP could get only 2 seats here. The National People’s Party (NPEP) got 19 seats. It formed the government together with PDF and HSPDP. He formed the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA).

The parties here are in election mode for the last three months. Congress has already released the list of 40 and NPP 58 candidates.
