Varanasi court has also called for 18 files for hearing of 7 cases.

The Supreme Court on Monday heard the petition of the Muslim side seeking permission for Wudu in Gyanvapi Masjid. CJI DY Chandrachud’s bench said that the Varanasi collector should call a meeting of the concerned officials on April 18 and take a decision in that. So that facility can be given for Wudu in the premises of Gyanvapi Masjid.

The petition was filed by the Anjuman Intejamia Masjid Committee. In which it was said that the ablutions built inside the mosque should be opened. Which has been sealed as Shivling. The next hearing of the matter has been fixed on April 21.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta: The place they are talking about for Wudu is a disputed area where the Shivling is located, so this demand could create problems. Although the collector and the mosque committee can take a decision on this.

Muslim counsel Huzaifa Ahmadi: Ramadan is on. The authorities can arrange for mobile toilets.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta: The concern is that the mobile toilet should not affect the sanctity of the premises. For this, the authorities will have to take appropriate steps.

CJI DY Chandrachud: The petitioners want adequate space for ablutions and washrooms. For this, the Varanasi collector should call a meeting on April 18 so that an amicable solution can be found. The matter be listed on April 21.

If a decision for mobile toilets and wudu is taken by mutual consent in the meeting, it can be implemented without waiting for further orders from the court

The Supreme Court, during a hearing in November last year, had said that the protection of the Shivling found at Gyanvapi would continue till further orders.
