Abhayraj won the election by 2 votes. Slogans were raised in the celebration that followed, but more than that Brahmins were abused.

The Brahmin leaders felt bad about this. But the height of Udaybhan alias Dr. Singh was so big that no one could speak. It was decided that to compete with the Thakurs, a domineering Brahmin would have to be found. This search was completed with Vijay Mishra.

Reached Mulayam’s shelter and became MLA
In the 90s, Vijay Mishra contested for the first time in the block chief’s election. Looted a lot of money. The one who did not vote was taken away. When the result came, Vijay registered a one-sided victory. After this, Vijay started preparations to try his hand in the District Panchayat and went to the shelter of Mulayam.

At that time the district panchayat president of Bhadohi used to be Shivkaran Yadav alias Kake. Kake had abused Mulayam Singh many times. That’s why Mulayam pushed Vijay Mishra forward and gave 3 tickets for Zilla Panchayat. Vijay conquered all three. After this, Vijay Mishra was no less than a pawn for Mulayam.

Assembly elections were to be held in 2002. Vijay Mishra asked for the MLA ticket. Mulayam Singh put a condition that along with him, he will win both the seats of Bhadohi and also all the SP candidates of Mirzapur. Vijay accepted the condition. When the elections were held, not only did Vijay win, but Kailash Chaurasia from Mirzapur and Mahesh Narayan Singh from Handia won the elections. Vijay defeated BJP’s Gorakhnath Pandey by 7,652 votes in Gyanpur seat.

Murder happened on the day of voting, Vijay’s name came

Gorakhnath Pandey’s brother was murdered at a booth on the same day as voting for this election. Gorakhnath says, “Vijay Mishra wanted to kill me but I was in another car and my brother was in mine. Granted but Vijay Mishra was acquitted.” The case was closed after investigation but has been reopened following the initiative of the Human Rights Commission, the investigation is ongoing.

When Vijay became the MLA, the hank went on increasing. The level of intimidation kept getting higher. Case after case went on. By 2005, this number reached 20. In the same year, wife Ramlali was made the district panchayat president from Bhadohi.

Leaders are not garlanded with gold chains
Vijay Mishra was a religious man. Fasting during Navratri. 11 Pandits used to chant for the whole 9 days. On the last day, he used to perform Havan and feed 40 thousand people. Brahmins were given a cow along with money and grains as dakshina. This order went on continuously, later on they started getting yagyas done for victory. Vijay knew how to woo the leaders. When the big leaders of the party used to visit Bhadohi’s Sitamarhi, Vijay used to invite them for dinner at his place. To welcome them, they were not garlanded with flowers, but were given a gold chain weighing equal to the status of the person in front. And used to put the chain box in his own pocket so that the person in front does not have to go to the sonar shop to know the weight of the chain.

Vijay Mishra’s status was such that whenever a big leader of any party went to Bhadohi, he would definitely go to meet him.

When the police reached to catch them, they fled with Mulayam.
In 2007, when the BSP government was formed in the state, even then only Vijay Mishra from the SP won the Gyanpur seat. In 2009, a by-election was held on the adjacent Bhadohi seat. 30 ministers of BSP used to campaign somewhere or the other everyday. Officers told that Vijay Mishra has good hold in the area, if he is kept in his court then the whole district will be with him. Mayawati sent an offer to Vijay. Such was Vijay’s devotion to Mulayam that he turned down the offer to join the BSP. It so happened that the officers opened the criminal file of Vijay Mishra.

Mulayam Singh had come to campaign in support of the SP candidate. On the other hand, the BSP government sent the police to arrest Vijay Mishra. Vijay went straight to Mulayam’s rally and said with folded hands, “You care about my wife Ramlali’s vermilion, save me.” Mulayam Singh roared and said, no mother’s son has the guts to arrest Vijay Mishra while we are alive. After this, Mulayam made Vijay sit with him in the helicopter and flew away. The police kept watching.

Minister attacked and caught as a monk
On July 12, 2010, Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’, who was a cabinet minister in the BSP government at that time, had gone to worship as usual, about 1 kilometer away from his house in the morning. Reached the temple and had just got down from the car that the bomb kept in the scooty was blown up from the remote. A cloud of smoke rose. Nandi’s wife Abhilasha Gupta got a case registered against Vijay Mishra, block chief Dilip Mishra and two others. The police started arresting. Dileep is caught. Vijay Mishra absconded. Police teams kept searching for 7 months but nothing was found about Vijay.

He roamed Karnataka, Kolkata and Mumbai wearing saffron clothes. The police declared the prize money from 20 thousand to 50 thousand and then directly Rs 2.5 lakh. On 8 February 2011, STF arrested Vijay from Hauz Khas in Delhi.

Fought election from jail and won by 37 thousand votes
