Dausa in Rajasthan received rain with thunderstorm on Saturday, due to which the minimum temperature dropped by 4 degrees Celsius.

After April, now even May will not give the feeling of summer. According to the Meteorological Department (IMD) estimates, except in the East, Northeast and North-West India bordering Pakistan, the temperature in May will not cross 40 degrees. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in 14 states for the next 4 days.

According to the IMD, heavy rains with thunderstorms are expected over the next four days in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland. At the same time, an alert has been issued for heavy to very heavy rains in some areas of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

On the other hand, light rain is expected in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana. Apart from this, there are chances of drizzle in Leh Ladakh as well. Clouds can remain in 10 states.

Will the monsoon come early this time too?
According to the Meteorological Department, the monsoon will knock over Kerala on June 1. Its accurate estimate will be available by May 15. However, a cyclonic storm is likely to form in the Bay of Bengal near the Andaman Sea during the second to third week of May. It can cause pre-monsoon rains in some parts of the country.

What will be the effect on monsoon if there is not much heat in April-May?
The surface temperature over Indian land in April–May is not directly related to the monsoon. The monsoon depends on the sea surface temperature at the two ends of the ocean and can be of three types – neutral, El-Nino and La-Nina. Monsoon remains normal in neutral condition. Drought occurs in El-Nino and more rain in La-Nina.

At present, the situation is neutral, but there is a possibility that El Nino conditions will start forming during July-August. But, the second phenomenon ‘Indian Dipole turning positive’ to help the Indian monsoon is about to start soon.
