In the year 2022, the Asian Games were not organized due to Corona virus. Which is being done now.

The country’s top wrestlers have been away from the sport for a long time, opening a front against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, former president of the Wrestling Federation of India. Now the players are planning to return to the mat again. Wrestlers have expressed their desire to participate in the Asian Games to be held after 3 months.

Here, Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said that all national federations aim to finalize the team for the Asian Games before the July 15 deadline set by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). The Games are scheduled to take place in Hangzhou, China from 23 September to 8 October.

Conducting selection test by the end of this month
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) had informed on April 27 that a three-member adhoc committee is looking after the day-to-day affairs of the wrestling federation. India’s WFI will conduct the selection trials in the last week of June. However, the wrestlers want some more time to prepare for the trials.

Sakshi Malik’s husband and international wrestler Satyavrat Kadian said, “We want to take part in the selection trials, but we need at least one-and-a-half months of training to prepare for it.” Getting back into competitive mode will be a tough task for the wrestlers as some haven’t competed since the World Championship in September last year, while some others last returned to the mat during the Commonwealth Games in August, 2022 .

Wrestlers had recently pulled out of several international competitions, while Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia also decided to pull out of their international training camps in April due to the protests.

The Sports Minister had said that wrestlers should return to the mat again.
Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur on Thursday reiterated that the demands of the wrestlers, including constitution of a WFI internal complaints committee headed by a woman, will be met. He said, I said yesterday also, we had a very positive meeting with the protesting wrestlers.

Whatever issues they raise, we discussed them. We have said that the charge sheet will be filed by June 15 and the WFI elections will be held by June 30. Thakur said that we want wrestlers to return to the mat and participate in competitions.
