When this woman named Seema Khatoon alias Khushboo was a minor, she was married off. To prevent her father from being arrested for conducting a child marriage, she killed herself by hanging herself from the ceiling fan on Friday night.

Husband died in Corona two years ago, there are also two children
The incident is of South Salrama-Mankachar district. Seema Khatoon’s husband had died two years ago due to Corona. Since then she was living at her father’s house with two children. When Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ordered to take action in cases of child marriage, Seema Khatoon ended her life.

2,170 arrests in the state so far, 4,074 cases registered
Assam Police spokesperson and IG Law and Order Prasannatha Kumar Bhuyan said that 2,170 people involved in child marriage in any form have been arrested till Saturday. Those arrested include 52 priests and qazis. There is every possibility of increasing this figure. On the other hand, Assam Police DGP GP Singh said that 4,074 cases related to child marriage have been registered in different police stations of the state. So far maximum arrests have been made in Dhubri, Barpeta, Kokrajhar and Vishwanath districts.
