Former Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi is once again in headlines. This time there is a controversy with him for hurting religious sentiments. Actually, Channi was on a tour of Himachal Pradesh a few days back. Here he met Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu.
During that time CM Sukhu made him wear a shawl and a cap to honor Channi, but Channi put the Himachali cap over the dastar. After this the matter took a religious color and Sikh organizations started expressing their opposition and objections. After this he has apologized to the Jathedar of Shri Akal Takht.

An alleged audio recording of Channi is also going viral on social media. In this he is having a conversation with Davinder Singh from Sant Sipahi Society Ludhiana.
Asked to go to Shri Akal Takht Sahib and apologize
In which the matter of keeping Himachali cap on Channi’s dastar was questioned. Channi replied that it was done out of respect for him and I took off. Channi is also heard apologizing on the matter. He said that those doing the honor did not know that the cap should not be kept on the dastar. Caller Davinder Singh asked to go to Shri Akal Takht Sahib and apologize to Sangat. In response, Channi asked to go to the Jathedar and apologize.
SGPC also expressed objection
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has also objected to Charanjit Singh Channi wearing a Himachali cap on his dastar. The SGPC asked Channi to apologize for violating Sikh tradition. However, Channi is apologizing saying that this matter was unintentional.
