The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued its weather forecast for this week. According to IMD, heat wave conditions will continue over Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha and Coastal Andhra Pradesh during next 4-5 days. The department has issued an orange alert for heat wave in all the five states.

According to the department, there will be an outbreak of severe heat wave in Punjab and Haryana on Monday and Tuesday. The heat will be scorching in Bihar, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh for the next four-five days. The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has issued a heat wave alert in 116 mandals of the state on Monday. Apart from this, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee has directed to keep all schools and colleges in the state closed till Saturday.

Apart from this, IMD has predicted fresh rains in the western Himalayan region and adjoining plains. There is a possibility of rain in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh on Tuesday and in Himachal Pradesh on 18 and 19 April. It may rain in Uttarakhand on 19 April.

What will be the temperature during the next 5 days
According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, at present the maximum temperature in many parts of central and eastern India is between 39 and 42 degrees Celsius. There will be a gradual rise in maximum temperature by about 1-2 degree Celsius over Northwest India during the next 48 hours. After that, there is a possibility of a drop of 2-4 degree Celsius. There will be no significant change in the maximum temperature over the states of South India during the next two days. Later it will increase by 2-4 degree Celsius.

There is a possibility of rain in many states including Delhi and Rajasthan in the next 3 days.

In Rajasthan’s Bikaner, on Sunday afternoon, small hailstones accompanied by thunderstorms and rain fell.

Delhi, Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and West Rajasthan may receive rain on April 17-19. On the other hand, there is a possibility of light rain with thunderstorm and heavy winds in Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Maharashtra and Marathwada during April 17-19. Along with this, it may rain in Telangana till 17th April and in North Interior Karnataka till 19th April.

5th coldest April since 1951 April 2023
According to IMD’s dataset, on April 9, the average maximum temperature recorded in India so far was 33.85 degree Celsius. This is 0.46 degrees below the normal average for India for the time period 1981 to 2010. Let us tell you that since March 16, the average maximum temperature has remained below normal. And on April 9, it came closest to normal.

The maximum temperature on April 8 was 33.07°C, which was 10 days behind schedule as per the normal temperature. This makes April 2023 the 5th coldest April ever recorded since 1951. In 2022, all days from March 16 to April 9 had an average maximum temperature of at least one degree above normal. Except for two days in the same time period, 9 days of April were the 9th warmest since 1951.

February 2023 was the 13th warmest February since 1951.
The IMD officially considers the period from December to February as India’s winter. This year it ended prematurely. The average maximum temperature in the last two weeks of February was marginally higher than the normal of the first week of March. The maximum temperature was above normal for 25 out of 28 days in February. On average the month was 1.16 °C warmer than normal, making February 2023 the 13th warmest February since 1951.
