Enraged by the sacrilege, some youths vandalized the house of the accused Jasveer on Monday evening. In protest against the incident, the shopkeepers of Morinda kept the market closed. Jathedar of Takht Shri Kesgarh Sahib Giani Raghbir Singh also strongly condemned this incident of sacrilege. National Commission for Minorities Chairman Iqbal Singh Lalpura also took strict cognizance of the incident and demanded strict action against the accused.

Lalpura said that Punjab has seen a long history of communal violence. Such incidents could have been avoided if there was strict punishment to the accused and fair investigation in these cases. The National Commission for Minorities has asked the Chief Secretary of Punjab to list all the cases of sacrilege in Punjab in the last 45 years.

A hairy young man entered inside the gurudwara and started beating the reciting texts. The incident took place on Monday at Morinda in Ropar district. After the incident, the people present in the gurudwara caught the sacrilege youth and thrashed him fiercely. Sangat dragged the young man out of the gurudwara. CCTV footage related to this incident which took place at Kotwali Sahib Gurdwara in Morinda town in Ropar district has come to the fore.

It is clearly visible in this footage that the lesson was going on in the gurudwara around 1.15 pm. Sangat was chanting while sitting. At the same time a hairy young man entered the Gurudwara wearing shoes. As soon as he entered the Gurdwara, the youth started moving straight towards the two granthis who were reciting Sri Guru Granth Sahib and gestured them to exit the Gurdwara. Before anyone could understand anything, the young man jumped over the steel grill and reached the back side of Sri Guru Granth Sahib.

Sangat caught and beat, dragged out
The young man started beating both the glands sitting there. He took off their turbans while raining slaps on both of them in front of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. In a fit of anger, the young man also disrespected Sri Guru Granth Sahib. All this happened so quickly that the Sangat who was chanting in the Gurudwara did not understand anything at all. After this, in a hurry, the Sangat present there caught hold of the young man and thrashed him fiercely. After this people dragged the young man out of the gurudwara.

As soon as the information about the incident was received, the police also reached the spot and took the youth into custody. This incident of sacrilege enraged the people of Morinda and they started protesting on the road. This made the situation tense in Morinda. The people sitting on the dharna alleged that the police wanted to declare the young man mad. He claimed that neither the youth’s actions were insane nor was his intention. People said that till action is not taken against the youth, they will not end the protest.
