The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) will launch Chandrayaan-3 on Friday at 2:35 pm. This time more fuel and many fail safety measures have been done in the vehicle. Also the landing site will be bigger.

In September 2019, Chandrayaan-2 had crash-landed due to a glitch in the software.

On the sidelines of India Space Congress of SIA-India (Satcom Industry Association), ISRO chief S Somnath explained what went wrong when Chandrayaan-2’s Vikram lander was moving towards the 500×500 meter landing spot on the lunar surface.
Engines produced more thrust than expected
Somnath told that we had five engines for Chandrayaan-2’s Vikram Lander, which are used to reduce velocity, which is called retardation. These engines produced more thrust than expected. Due to this many problems started increasing.

Sharp turn not controlled by software
The ISRO chief said that this is another issue. The troubles were more than we expected. The lander had to make a very sharp turn. When it started turning very fast, the software could not control it, because we never expected such a high-rate.
landing site small
He said the third reason for the failure of Chandrayaan 2 was the small 500m x 500m landing site identified for landing the spacecraft. He said, efforts were being made to reach there by increasing the speed of the vehicle. It was close to the lunar ground and the speed kept increasing.
The size of the landing site is more this time
He said that instead of success based design in Chandrayaan-2, the space agency has opted for failure based design in Chandrayaan-3. Somnath said, ‘We have increased the landing site from 500 meters x 500 meters to 2.5 kilometers. It can land anywhere, so it does not have to land at a particular place. It can land anywhere within that area.

Three parts to reach Chandrayaan-3 to the Moon

ISRO has prepared three parts, which are called modules in technical language, to take the space ship to the moon. The module in Chandrayaan-3 mission has 3 parts…

Apart from these three, Chandrayaan-2 had one more part, which is called the orbiter. He is not being sent this time. Chandrayaan-2’s orbiter is already orbiting the Moon. Now ISRO will use it in Chandrayaan-3.
