Gambhir had filed a case against him in the Delhi High Court regarding the published article.

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued notice to a newspaper in the Gautam Gambhir defamation case. Hindi newspaper had published some articles against Gambhir. After which Gambhir filed a defamation case against the newspaper.

Gambhir had asked the newspaper to tender an unconditional written apology in this matter. The court refused, saying that the public representative need not be so sensitive. Any public figure must be thick skinned. These days judges should also be thick skinned.

Gambhir’s lawyer says – an attempt to malign the image
A division bench of Justice Chandra Dhari Singh issued notice on the interim injunction application. During the arguments, the court also said that there is a need to consider the matter prima facie. Gautam Gambhir’s advocate Jai Anant, appearing for the plaintiff, submitted that the defendants (newspaper and its representatives) are targeting Gambhir.

The newspaper has so far published more than seven articles regarding Gambhir. The lawyer said that these articles are very malicious. He said that it seems that the newspaper is doing this deliberately to tarnish Gambhir’s image.

Newspaper’s argument, there are serious MPs too
On the other hand, Senior Advocate Rajasekhar Rao appeared in the court on behalf of the newspaper. The difficulty, he said, is that the plaintiff has decided to become a Member of Parliament, he has decided to travel in two boats. He is so sensitive only about our newspaper, why not about other publications?

However, Rajasekhara Rao admitted that some of the words written in the article are wrong. Better words could have been used instead.

Know from which article the controversy started
This dispute between Gautam Gambhir and the newspaper started from November 2022. The newspaper had published an article about Gambhir, in which it was said that Gautam was often missing from his constituency as an MP. The MP is rarely seen on the TV screen.

In response to this, Gambhir said that he is a part of the Indian Premier League (IPL). In such a situation, he had to follow the security rules made by the league. There cannot be much interaction in this. Media houses have only misused their freedom of speech and expression.
