The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) will soon meet the country’s Home Minister Amit Shah. For this, opinion of like-minded organizations is being taken and gathered. The SGPC will meet Home Minister Shah and demand his intervention in the Sikh Gurdwara Act 1925 amendment bill passed by the Punjab government in the Vidhansabha.

It may be noted that in the special session of the Punjab Legislative Assembly, the amendment of the Sikh Gurdwara Act 1925 was approved by the Punjab Government. But the SGPC lodged a protest against it and termed it as a violation of the Sikh Gurdwara Act 1925. According to SGPC Principal Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, no amendment can be made in this Act without the approval of the Managing Committee.

General meeting was called on 26 June
The SGPC had also called a special general meeting on June 26 against the Act passed by the Punjab government in the assembly. In which the SGPC refused to accept the act passed in the Punjab Assembly.

After this, the SGPC chief also went to meet Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit. Where Governor Purohit assured Pradhan Dhami that he would take steps as per rules.

UCC also opposed
Pradhan Dhami has also opposed the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). Advocate Dhami expressed concern about the possible loss of traditions, culture and unique identity of the minorities. He said that SGPC will take a tough stand against the Civil Code and oppose it.
