In a viral video, Italia called Minister of State for Home Harsh Shanghvi as ‘Drugs Shanghvi’ and BJP state president CR Patil as ‘ex-liquor smuggler’. Pratap Chodwadia, a BJP worker, had filed a case against Italia. Later the case was handed over to the Crime Branch.

Gopal Italia was also in controversies regarding his old statements during last year’s assembly elections.
