Opening of all the gates of Hiran Dam in Gir-Somnath created a flood situation in the city. Cars were washed away by the strong current of water in many areas.

Several parts of Gujarat including Rajkot, Junagadh Surat and Gir Somnath districts received torrential rains on Tuesday. This created a flood-like situation in many places. It started raining in all the four districts from late night on Tuesday.

300 mm of rain has been recorded till 6 am on Wednesday. Due to water-logging in Rajkot and Gir-Somnath districts, more than 200 people have so far been evacuated to safer places.

Gir-Somnath has received 20 inches of rain in the last 24 hours. This caused the deer dam to overflow and all the gates of the dam had to be opened late at night. This created a situation like rivers flowing on the roads in the city. Cars were washed away by the strong current of water in many areas. Houses in low-lying areas were flooded, forcing people to save their belongings overnight.

Chance of heavy rain in Saurashtra even today
Sutrapada taluka of Gir-Somnath district has received maximum rainfall of 345 mm in the last 14 hours till 6 am on Tuesday. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains at places like Amreli, Bhavnagar, Valsad, Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli even today.

The state administration reviewed the preparedness to deal with the situation arising out of heavy rains and the overall monsoon situation in Gujarat. Meanwhile, visuals of heavy water-logging and water-logging have been seen on social media in the areas of the state. In view of the situation, NDRF teams have been put on alert.

9.5 inches of rain in Dhoraji in 6 hours
Due to 9.5 inches of rain in 6 hours in Dhoraji of Rajkot district, the entire city became waterlogged. The situation has become serious due to water-logging in the low-lying areas. On the other hand, areas including Udhna Darwaza, Udhna Garnala, Udhna Char Rasta, Limbayat and Dhumbal in Surat received heavy rainfall, leading to water-logging in the areas. Mithikhadi Heavy waterlogging in Limbayat area has posed challenges for the residents. Due to rapid accumulation of rain water, the underpass at Udhna railway station had to be temporarily closed for traffic.

4 feet of water came in Ukai Dam
Due to incessant rains in the last four days, the water level of Ukai Dam has increased by 4 feet. This increase directly affects the Tapi river, causing an increase of 7 meters in the water level of the Surat Causeway. Due to which the movement of traffic on the Causeway has stopped.
