The special court in Ahmedabad will pronounce its verdict today in the Naroda Gam case following the 2002 Gujarat riots. In this case, former BJP MLA Maya Kodnani and several right-wing leaders are accused of involvement in the murder of 11 members of the minority community.
These 11 people were killed on 28 February 2002 in communal violence at Naroda Gam in Ahmedabad during the Gujarat riots. In 2002, a ‘bandh’ was called in Naroda village to protest against the Godhra train burning. During this time violence had spread here.
During this, 11 people were murdered. In this case, along with Kodnani, there are many important accused like former Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Jaideep Patel. In this case, 86 people were made accused, out of which 18 people have died.

Sabarmati Express reached Gujarat from Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh on 27 February 2002. That’s why the train was surrounded and set on fire in Godhra near Vadodara. 58 people had died due to arson in this train full of kar sevaks. The very next day, riots started all over Gujarat.
Riot in Naroda on 28 February
A bandh was announced in Naroda village on the next day of Godhra incident i.e. on 28 February. Meanwhile, at around 9 in the morning, a crowd of people started closing the market. Meanwhile, violence started taking place from the crowd itself. The people in the crowd started pelting stones. After this arson, sabotage started and during this time 11 people were killed. Death has happened.
After this, riots had spread in Naroda Patiya village as well. Massacres took place here too. 97 people had died in these two areas. After this massacre, riots spread all over Gujarat. In this case, the SIT had named the then BJP MLA Maya Kodnani as the main accused. Maya Kodnani has also been a former minister in the state government.
