Karnataka BJP MLA Madal Virupakshappa on Tuesday got anticipatory bail from the High Court in a corruption case. After this, he was given a warm welcome in his home town Davanagere. On March 2, his son was caught taking a bribe of 40 lakhs. Four others were also arrested along with him. Since then the MLA was missing.

Now MLA Virupakshappa has come forward in this case after getting bail. During this, a large crowd appeared with him. The workers walked with his car and during this there was a lot of sloganeering. Virupakshappa was in the open car and was also greeting people. During this, the workers also burst fireworks.

Madal Virupakshappa was made the prime accused in the Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited (KSDL) contract scam. The Lokayukta police arrested his son Prashant Madal at the KSDL office while accepting a bribe of Rs 40 lakh on his behalf. Prashant is the Chief Accounts Officer in Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board. Following the arrest of his son, BJP MLA from Channagiri Virupakshappa had resigned from the post of KSDL president.

While granting conditional bail, the court has directed the MLA to appear before the investigating officer in the case within 48 hours of receiving the copy of the order. The court also directed Virupakshappa not to influence the witnesses while out on bail. The hearing of the application was adjourned to March 17.

The alleged scam pertains to the supply of chemicals to KSDL, for which a bribe of Rs 81 lakh was allegedly demanded. Following Prashant’s arrest, the Lokayukta police conducted searches at the Madal family’s home and offices, in which Rs 8.23 ​​crore in cash was recovered.
