The Bombay Lawyers Association has filed a PIL in the Bombay High Court against Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju. The petition claimed that Dhankhar and Rijiju have brought down the reputation of the Supreme Court. In such a situation, both should be prevented from discharging their official duties.

The petition has demanded that the court also declare that the statements of both show disbelief towards the Constitution of India, due to which they are not eligible to hold constitutional posts. This petition has been filed in the court on behalf of Ahmed Abidi, President of Bombay Lawyers Association. Soon the High Court will hear this petition.

Law Minister has raised questions on the system
Actually, Kiren Rijiju has questioned the Supreme Court collegium system many times. He had written a letter to the CJI demanding inclusion of a representative of the government in the collegium. He said that there will be transparency in the system and accountability towards the public will also be fixed.

Kiren Rijiju had said in November last year that the collegium system lacked transparency and accountability. He had said that the representatives of the concerned state government should be involved in the process of appointment of judges in the High Court as well.

The Vice President gave a statement on SC’s decision
At the same time, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar recently raised questions on the historic 1973 decision of the Supreme Court in the Kesavananda Bharti case. Along with this, in December 2022, Dhankhar called the repeal of the NJAC Act a violation of the mandate of the people. On the court’s remark in the judgment, Dhankhar had said that it would be difficult to answer the question “are we a democratic nation”.
