The Tungnath Shiva temple was built by the Kalchuri rulers.
The structure of the Tungnath Shiva temple located in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand is slowly bending. According to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the structure of the temple has an inclination of 6 degrees while its idols have an inclination of 10 degrees. Situated at an altitude of 12 thousand 800 feet, this temple is the highest Shiva temple in the world.
The ASI has informed the Central Government about the bending of the temple. The government has been suggested that this monument be declared protected. After this suggestion, the process of declaring the Tungnath temple as protected by giving it the status of national importance has started. Now the ASI is looking for the reason behind the bending of the temple.
At present, ASI officials are considering the sliding or sinking of the ground as the reason for the tilt of the temple.
The danger of temple collapse, experts will be consulted
In the survey of ASI, a 6 degree tilt has been found in the structure of Tungnath Shiv Temple while 10 degree tilt has been seen in the small structures and idols built inside the premises. ASI officials say that the temple may also collapse. ASI Superintendent Manoj Kumar Saxena told that he is trying to know the reason behind the tilt of the temple. After this, if possible, we will try to repair the temple.
Experts will be consulted to change the foundation stones of the temple. Apart from this, a detailed work program will be prepared after an in-depth investigation of the temple.
At present, ASI officials are considering the sliding or sinking of the ground as the reason for the tilt of the temple. He said that after consulting the experts, the damaged foundation stones would be replaced. For the time being, the agency fixed the glass scale, which can measure the movement on the wall of the temple.

The Tungnath Shiva Temple was built by the Kalchuri rulers in the 8th century. This temple comes under the Badri Kedar Mandir Committee.
Management in favor of repairing the temple
According to media reports, the issue of the temple was raised in the Badri Kedar Temple Committee (BKTC) meeting. BKTC President Ajendra Ajay says that the committee is in favor of getting this temple repaired. The management is ready to help the ASI to repair the temple but is not ready to hand over the temple completely to the Archaeological Survey of India.
