The Kashmir Files, directed by Vivek Agnihotri, was released on 11 March.

International Film Festival of India (IFFI) jury head and Israeli filmmaker Nadav Lapid has described ‘The Kashmir Files’ as obscene and a propaganda film. He said this at the conclusion of the 53rd Film Festival ceremony held in Goa. He said that we all are disturbed that such a film has been shown at this function. This film is very vulgar. When Lapid said this, during that time many big leaders including Union Minister Anurag Thakur were also present.

This statement of Lapid has been opposed by film maker Ashok Pandit. Pandit said that I have objection to his statement. The Kashmir Files cannot be called obscene.

Nadav Lapid is an Israeli filmmaker, director and screenwriter.  He is also the Jury President of International Competition of IFFI.  He won the Golden Bear Award at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2019 for the film Synonyms.

“We were all disturbed and surprised to see the film The Kashmir Files. We found this film obscene and propaganda based. This film is not appropriate for such a prestigious film festival. I can openly share my feeling with you guys because it is the soul of this event that we accept and discuss criticisms here.

In this festival, we saw 7 films in the Debut Competition and 15 films in the International Competition. Out of this, 14 films were of cinematic features. The 15th film The Kashmir Files was going to disturb and surprise all of us.

Actor Darshan Kumar has also played an important role in the film. On Lapid’s statement, he said that after watching any film, every person has his own opinion. But there is no denying the fact that Kashmir Files is a film that talks about the plight of Kashmiri Pandits. These people are still fighting for justice against terrorism. So this film is not on vulgarity but on reality.

Anupam Kher also tweeted on Monday night after the video of Lapid’s statement went viral. In this he posted some pictures related to the film, in which he wrote-

No matter how tall a lie may be, it is always small in comparison to the truth.

Painful story of Kashmiri Hindus
The film ‘The Kashmir Files’, released on 11 March 2022, is based on the 1990 Kashmir insurgency. The film depicts the story of the exodus and genocide of Kashmiri Hindus. Stars like Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi and Mithun Chakraborty have played lead roles. The Kashmir Files did good business. It earned more than Rs 290 crore at the box office.

Prime Minister Modi had praised the film in the BJP parliamentary party meeting. He had said that such films should continue to be made. The truth is revealed through them. 1. Film banned in New Zealand
The film has been banned in New Zealand. The film was earlier approved for release with an A certificate, but after a review on the demand of the Muslim community, the censor board decided to ban the film.

2. Banned in Singapore as well
Vivek Agnihotri’s film was about to be released in Singapore, but the film was banned by the censor board there. After this news came, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor took a jibe at Vivek and the BJP. He had said that the film has a one-sided portrayal of the wrong image of Muslims and the persecution of Hindus in the ongoing conflict in Kashmir. The film has the potential to create enmity between several communities and harm brotherhood.
