In Assam, the term ‘Mian’ is often used for Muslims of Bengali origin. They originally came from Bangladesh.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma blamed the Miyan community for the rising prices of vegetables in the state. Sarma said- Most of the vegetable sellers in the city are Miyan. They are selling expensive vegetables to the Assamese people.

After this comment of Sarma, AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi took a dig at Sarma by tweeting. Owaisi wrote – There is such a group in the country in whose house if the buffalo does not give milk or the hen does not give eggs, then the blame will also be put on the Miyan.

Owaisi further wrote, perhaps Mian Bhai must have been blamed for his personal failures. Nowadays, Modi ji has deep friendship with foreign Muslims, get some tomatoes, spinach, potatoes etc. from them and get the work done.

Now read what is the dispute about Mian in Assam…

In Assam, the term ‘Mian’ is often used for Muslims of Bengali origin. They originally came from Bangladesh. The Chief Minister of Assam has often described the Miya community as communal.

Before the Assam assembly elections in the year 2021, Sarma said in a program, Miyan community is trying to spoil the Assamese culture. Sarma had also called him an outsider.

Latest controversy with Ajmal’s statement, said – State does not exist without Mian
All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) Chief Badruddin Ajmal recently brought it into the limelight by giving a statement on Miyan. Ajmal had said, the Assamese community is incomplete without the Muslims. Miyan Muslim and Assamese people are like brothers. The state cannot exist without the Muslim community.

Himanta Sarma’s latest comment came after this statement of Ajmal. Sarma said, if Assamese traders were selling vegetables today, they would never have charged more than their Assamese people.

Sarma said – If the people of Assam come forward, I will vacate the market from Mian
CM Sarma asked the youth of Assam to come forward and sell vegetables. He assured that he would personally get the market below the flyover vacated so that Assamese boys could get employment opportunities.

The CM further said, we all have seen how Guwahati city sees less crowd during Eid. The movement of buses reduces. Because most of the bus and cab drivers are from the Miyan community.

Ajmal said – such things are not good from the mouth of CM
Assam’s Dhubri MP Badruddin Ajmal again criticized Sarma’s statement. Ajmal said, CM is the head of the state and such words do not seem right from his mouth. He shouldn’t have said that.

Ajmal further said, by doing all this, he is creating a divide between the Muslims and the Assamese people. If any incident happens even after all this, then the government and CM Sarma will be responsible for it.
