Today on Republic Day, 56 youths from all over the country will be honored with the Virbal Award. There are three young children from Punjab who are being honored with this award. In which the name of 12-year-old Ajan Kapoor of Amritsar is also included. Due to the bravery and understanding of Ajan, the lives of more than 100 people were saved during the Amarnath incident.

Father Sunil Kapoor told that Azaan has also been called by Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit at Punjab Bhawan in Chandigarh. Azaan belongs to a martyr family. He is the great-grandson of Lala Vasu Mal, who was martyred on 13 April 1919 during the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Azaan is the second person in the Kapoor family to be conferred with a national-level honour.

Ajan was serving in Amarnath
Azaan saved people from landslides during the Amarnath Yatra last year. The incident took place on the night of 31 July. All the devotees were having langar while returning from the Amarnath cave. Before that day, it had been raining for the last four days. Night Ajan stayed in the camp at Baltal.

Ajan went to serve in the langar at 8 pm. After serving for about an hour, he went to the back side of the langar ghar to urinate. He saw the fast flow of water in the drain. Also heard the sound of rolling stones from nearby peaks.

Seeing the stones coming, Ajan ran straight towards the camp. People were warned about the flow of water and stones in the camp and langar. As soon as they sensed the danger, everyone ran towards the safe places. Had there been a delay of 5 minutes, 100 precious lives would have been lost. They were taken to safe places by the security forces around 3 am.

Former deputy speaker knew the bravery of Azaan
When former deputy speaker Darbari Lal came to know about this bravery of Ajan, he was quite surprised. Without losing time, he gave this information to DC Amritsar. He also wrote a letter to DC Amritsar for this. Who sent the name of Ajan to the center. After a few attempts, Azaan’s name cropped up among the 56 young children who are being awarded the Virbal Award this year.
