The annual Amarnath Yatra ritual began on Saturday with the ‘first worship’ at the Amarnath cave in south Kashmir. Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha attended the ‘Pratham Puja’ (first worship) through video conferencing. The pilgrimage will begin on July 1 and end in August

Sinha tweeted, on the occasion of the ceremonial start of the annual Amarnath Yatra, attended the first worship through video conferencing. Pilgrimage to the holy cave of Baba Amarnath is the dream of a lifetime for millions of devotees across the globe. He said that the Jammu and Kashmir administration is committed to ensure that the best possible arrangements are made for the comfort and well-being of the pilgrims. Dedicated efforts have been made in the last few years to bring about visible improvements in infrastructure and other facilities, he added.

Sinha said that the officials of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) are working hard to ensure that the needs of the devotees are taken care of during the pilgrimage. We are constantly striving for better facilities and services for the pilgrims, he said. The local residents are making a huge contribution for the successful conduct of the yatra which begins on 1st July. This will also increase livelihood opportunities and boost the local economy.
