In his letter to Modi on Wednesday, the CM demanded Rs 5 crore for providing food to the refugees, Rs 3 crore for the construction of housing and Rs 2 crore for medicine and health facilities to the refugees.
Zoramthanga had earlier sent a message to Modi on June 18, seeking help in providing humanitarian aid to the refugees. Chief Secretary Lalnunmawia Chuango also wrote a letter to the Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs on the issue on 29 April.
State Planning Board vice-chairman H Ramamavi said on Thursday that unless the Center acts swiftly, the situation will worsen, resulting in famine-like conditions, especially in areas bordering Myanmar where refugees live in small villages. are.
Meanwhile, at least 200 refugees from Myanmar have entered the state since Wednesday night, village leaders along the Mizoram-Myanmar border areas said. MC Lalramenga, president of Tuipuiral Group Young Mizo Association (YMA) in Champhai district, said 129 refugees entered and took shelter in 6 villages – Farkon (56), Khuangleng (23). sazepo (22), Thekte (18), Leetham (8) and wangchia (2). These villages come under East Tuipui Assembly Constituency.
Sources in the city of Champhai said about 30 refugees, including some soldiers who left Myanmar’s military under the Military Council, which renamed itself the “State Administration Council”, entered.
