Zimbabwe’s 29-year-old off-spinner Roy Kaia has been reported with a suspicious bowling action during the one-off Test against Bangladesh played in Harare in July.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Tuesday that an independent assessment had found Kaia’s bowling action to be illegal and as such, he has been suspended from bowling in international cricket with immediate effect.

Kaia has played three Tests so far and has not taken a single wicket in three innings. Kaia has scored 59 runs in six innings he has played for Zimbabwe, with his highest score being 48.

The ICC stated that in accordance with Article 11.1 of the ICC Rules for Review of “Bowlers Reported with Suspicious Illegal Bowling Action”, Kaia’s international suspension shall be imposed by all national cricket federations for domestic cricket events played under their jurisdiction. recognized and implemented. in a statement.

“However, in accordance with Article 11.5 of the Regulations and with the consent of Zimbabwe Cricket, Kaia may be able to bowl at domestic cricket events played under their auspices,” the ICC said.

The 29-year-old off-spinner was reported with suspicious bowling action during the one-off Test against Bangladesh in Harare from July 7-11.

An expert panel reviewed footage of Kaia’s bowling action, as evaluation at an ICC accredited center was not possible due to various restrictions as a result of COVID-19.

The panel concluded that his delivery exceeded the 15 degree level of tolerance permitted under the rules and that his bowling action was illegal.

Kaya can apply for re-evaluation after making changes to her bowling action as per ICC rules.
