Zero to 100 km/h in under 1 second! Rimac says it’s possible with EVs – Times of India

Rimac Nevera is the quickest production road legal vehicle in the world. This means Rimac already has a car that accelerates to 96 km/h in under 2 seconds. But even so, they say that the Nevera is just a road-going fast car and was never designed for the drag strip. So, what does that mean Rimac? The company believes that it can produce an electric car that does the elusive 0-60 miles per hour or 0-96 km/h in less than one second, less than the time you’d take to say ’60 miles per hour’.
It was during an interview with The Drive, Matija Renic, the chief engineer behind the Rimac Nevera, made this statement when he was asked how much quicker he thought the EV could’ve been. He says that even though the Nevera is extremely fast, “figures here and there, we are very proud of them, but the car is more than that. It’s not a one-trick pony, it’s not a dragster that you take to the drag strip and achieve the best times, and that’s it.
“The car is actually very, very complex, showing you what automotive technology in the future can do. And it’s also very usable and very friendly from the user’s perspective. And in the end what we wanted to achieve is develop a driver’s car, something that’s very engaging and very rewarding just taking it out and enjoying it.”
Not that this feat has not been achieved before but it was on the drag strip and in an electric dragster. So, when Matija says that Rimac could today build a sub-1-second electric car, is the focus solely on outright acceleration? Perhaps, it is. But it needs to be noted that this theoretical car is meant to be a road-legal vehicle that anyone can drive. Top dragsters today that deliver such blinding performance do so while the drive is subjected to up to 7 Gs.
