Sharing an old picture of the duo, Zeenat wrote, “I would like to remember and honor Parveen on her birthday today. Parveen was beautiful, glamorous and talented. In the 70s, we used to wear our hair like this and enjoy western fashion. Although neither of us saw it, we were told that there was an uncanny resemblance between the two of us. It must have been true, because as recently as last year in Dubai I was contacted as ‘Parveen Ma’am’.”

“Naturally the media at that time created stories of competition and rivalry between us, but in reality we were always warm to each other. Not best friends, but contemporaries, colleagues and well-wishers. We worked together in Ashanti and Mahan,” he recalled. “Parveen’s struggle with mental health illness came at a time when the country was still so insensitive and ignorant on these matters. After his death, I often wondered how he was remembered. The tabloids focused on her romantic relationships and “episodes”, but Parveen was much more than who she dated or what she said when she was unwell. I think he never really got a chance to have his say,” he said.

Zeenat described Parveen as ‘intelligent and hardworking and creative’. “She loved to read, and I remember curling up with a book in between shots on set. She also achieved incredible success as an actress after appearing on the cover of Time magazine. Later, she Took various creative pursuits, started a spiritual journey, and started doing interior design. We stayed in touch for years before finally parting ways.”

Ending the post, Zeenat wrote, “Parveen was remarkable in so many ways, and I hope she will be remembered for the wonderful person she was.” In the comments section, Kajol wrote, “Absolutely true.” Farhan Akhtar dropped a heart emoji.
