Mumbai: Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan-directed feature film ’72 Hurain’ will release in Indian cinemas on July 7, the makers announced on Sunday. The 2019 film, starring Pavan Malhotra and Aamir Bashir in the lead, focuses on the consequences of violent extremism.
Chauhan, who also edited the film, said the story was a “sad reminder of the power of manipulation” and “there is an urgent need to address the root causes of terrorism.” “The slow poisoning of the brain by criminals turns ordinary people into suicide bombers. We must remember that even the bombers themselves, with families like ours, have fallen prey to the perverted beliefs and brainwashing of terrorist leaders. Trapped in the fatal illusion of 72 virgins, they walk a path of destruction, ultimately meeting a gruesome fate,” the director, who is also known for films like “Lahore”, said in a statement.
’72 Hurayn’ premiered under the Indian Panorama section at the 2019 International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, where it received the ICFT-UNESCO Gandhi Medal Special Mention. In 2021, Chauhan won the National Film Award for Best Direction for the film.

Producer Gulab Singh Tanwar said that ’72 Hurain’ is the perfect story to show how fictional stories were sold in the name of religion to turn innocent and common people into ruthless terrorists. Co-producer Ashok Pandit urged the audience to watch the film with a ‘rational mind’.
“This film will definitely make you consider some of the beliefs prevalent in the society and how they are just a figment of imagination. It will make you think about concepts and ideologies that are not close to reality in any way, and they How come people were only brainwashed to make them terrorists in the name of Jihad.”
Produced by Sarathi Entertainment and Aliens Pictures, ’72 Hurain’ is written by Anil Pandey and Junaid Wasi.
