Yuvraj, who retired from international cricket in 2019, scored 248 runs in 14 IPL matches for the Delhi Capitals during the 2015 edition of the cash-rich league.

Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh could make his debut as coach in the upcoming 2025 season of the Indian Premier League. According to a report in Sportstar on Saturday, the Delhi-based franchise has initiated talks with the legendary cricketer regarding a possible coaching role.

After failing to qualify for the playoffs in the last three seasons of the IPL, the Delhi Capitals parted ways with Ricky Ponting last month. The former Australian skipper was associated with the DC for seven seasons, but he failed to help them win the title. After leaving his role as head coach, Ponting hinted that DC is looking for a former Indian cricketer as head coach.

Yuvraj, who played a big role in helping India win the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup, retired from international cricket in 2019 after winning the IPL title with the Mumbai Indians. During his 12-year-long association with the league, he played for the Punjab Kings (formerly Kings XI Punjab), Pune Warriors India, Delhi Capitals (formerly Delhi Daredevils), Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and MI.

It was reported last month that Yuvraj was in contention to replace Ashish Nehra as the coach of the Gujarat Titans. But the latest report suggests that the former Indian pacer is likely to continue as the head coach, and the 2022 IPL champions are in touch with a couple of other former India cricketers to fill in for Gary Kirsten, who is now the head coach of Pakistan’s white ball team.

Yuvraj has no prior coaching experience in the IPL or in domestic cricket as well. But he has served as a mentor to Indian cricketers like Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma, who have made big names for themselves at the highest level.

Even though a final decision is awaited on Yuvraj’s move to Delhi, it will be interesting to see how things unfold in the coming months. Last month, former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly, who is Director of Cricket at the Delhi Capitals, claimed that he would become the new head coach of the franchise and expressed his desire to win the IPL title with DC.
