YouTube stresses need to balance opportunity for voters to hear equally from major national candidates
YouTube has announced that the YouTube channel of former US President Donald Trump has been restored.
The account was banned in January 2021 in the wake of the Capital attack. The decision has been taken following the lead of platforms like Twitter and Facebook.
In its statement, YouTube stressed the need to balance the opportunity for voters to hear equally from major national candidates ahead of the election.
“Starting today, Donald J. The Trump Channel is no longer restricted and can upload new content. “We carefully assessed the continued risk of real-world violence, while balancing the opportunity for voters to hear equally from major national candidates ahead of the election,” YouTubeInsider said in a statement posted to Twitter.
This channel will remain subject to our policies just like any other channel on YouTube.
Notably, YouTube’s decision comes as the former US president prepares for a 2024 presidential run. The restored account has over four thousand videos with 2.64 million subscribers.
Earlier in November, Twitter CEO Elon Musk used a poll to decide whether to reinstate Trump’s account. After this, Facebook also overturned Trump’s ban.
Trump’s media company later launched its own social media app, Truth Social, in response to the ban on all major platforms. He posts regularly on the forum.
