Yash Dayal disappointed after Rinku Singh hit 5 sixes

Rinku Singh’s last-over miracle handed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) a memorable win on Sunday evening. Needing 28 runs from the last five balls to chase down the target of 205, the Aligarh batsman hit five sixes in a row, helping Gujarat Titans win at their home ground. While Rinku emerged as the star of the night, a youth was seen hiding his face behind a towel. It was GT pacer Yash Dayal who failed to defend 29 runs in the last over.

Rinku and Yash share the dressing room in the domestic circuit but they were up against each other on Sunday night. While the latter faltered, the former holds the record for the highest target chased in the last over of an innings in IPL.
Those five maximums in a row shattered Dayal’s confidence one after the other and by the end of the game the bowler looked completely despondent. His comrades came to console him but this defeat must have had a deep impact on Dayal’s mind.
After the game, KKR came up with a heart-warming message for the GT pacer, who set a fine example of sportsmanship.

“Chin up, lad. Just a tough day at the office, happens to cricket’s best. You’re a champion, Yash, and you’re about to come back stronger,” KKR tweeted.
KKR’s win spelled Gujarat’s first defeat this season. Venkatesh Iyer scored 83 runs in 40 balls and shared a 100-run partnership in 55 balls with captain Nitish Rana to take Kolkata to victory. But Rashid’s hat-trick in the 17th turned the match in Gujarat’s favor before Rinku brought another twist through his unbeaten 48 in a jaw-dropping display of strokeplay to seal Kolkata’s victory.

Rinku, unbeaten on 48, attributed his miraculous innings to immense self-belief.
“I believed I could do it. (Nitish) Rana bhai said keep the faith and bat till the end, then let’s see what happens.
“I was just trying to hit sixes. (Umesh) Bhaiya was telling me not to think too much and just play the ball. I wasn’t thinking much, just reacting to the ball. It kept coming out in the middle, I believed and it came out in the end,” he said after receiving the Player of the Match award at the post-match presentation ceremony.
