Your next Oppo smartphone won’t have a charger, here’s why – Times of India

Yes, you are reading it right. If you plan to buy an Oppo smartphone, remember that chances are you will not be getting a charger inside the box. Not now but soon. While every brand was getting rid of chargers, Oppo was one of the few manufacturers that did not follow the trend and was still giving chargers inside the box, but that is to change soon.
As per a recent report from Android Police, Billy Zhang, Vice President of Overseas Sales and Services at Oppo, revealed that the company will soon do away with the chargers starting next year, i.e. 2023. “We will take the charger out of the box in the next year for several products. We have a plan,” Zhang said during a group interview at the launch of Reno 8 series in Europe.
However, Oppo does not seem to get rid of chargers once and for all, as it says it will be removing chargers from “several” but not all the products, but we do not know which one of them will make the cut.
Zhang further said, “It’s not that easy for consumers to get access to [SuperVOOC chargers], so we have to keep it in the box,” on why the company did not remove the chargers until now when every other manufacturer was getting rid of them.
He added, “However, as we are expanding our business operations, we are looking to taking chargers out of the box and put them in the store so that our users are able to buy the chargers and continue using them even when they upgrade their devices.”
Zhang did not seem to divulge further why the company decided to take such a move despite saying that SuperVOOC chargers are tough to get. But based on the comments, the company may not remove chargers in every region. We expect this to happen in markets where the company already has a strong retail presence, as it plans to “put them in the store.”
