Adityanath also directed the police officials to conduct a fair investigation into the matter.

The incident is from Kathgarhi village of Ramkola police station area on March 20, after which seriously injured Babar Ali died on March 25 during treatment at a hospital in Lucknow.

Officials said that after the incident, DK Singh, in-charge of Ramkola police station, has been removed from his post. A police officer said that the constable has been sent to the police lines.

According to the police, Ali was thrashed by his neighbors for celebrating the victory of the BJP in the recently concluded assembly elections. The police have so far arrested two persons, identified as Arif and Tahid, while the search is on for two others registered in the case.

Police said Ali was celebrating the saffron party’s victory by distributing sweets and bursting crackers. A case has been registered against four people on the complaint of his wife Fatima Khatoon.

Ali’s brother Chande Alam said that for the past four months many people in the area were threatening his brother as he had campaigned for the BJP. He claimed that some people even pressurized him to vote for ‘Cycle’ (the party symbol of the Samajwadi Party).

Alam said Ali said it was his right and he voted for the BJP. He also said that his brother had approached the police several times, but no one paid heed. Ali’s mother Zaibunisa also alleged that her son received threats and even the village head supported those who threatened her child.

Police further said that Ali’s family and his neighbors were relatives and they had a dispute over the drainage channel. ASP Ritesh Kumar Singh said, “He was told to live in peace.”

According to reports, Ali had campaigned for local MLA PN Pathak during the assembly elections. Police said that on March 20, his neighbors, who were threatening him, surrounded him in the house and started beating him with sticks. When he climbed on the roof of the house to save himself, they threw him down, they said.

When Babar’s body reached the village on Sunday, his family refused to perform the last rites and demanded the arrest of the culprits. But, when Pathak and other officials reached the spot, the family members agreed to bury him.
