CM Adityanath lauded India’s best ever performance in the Olympic event and praised the athletes for doing their best for the country despite the COVID pandemic.

The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday gave an amount of Rs 42 crore to honor Olympians who made the country proud at the recently concluded Tokyo Games.

Chief Minister Adityanath also presented an additional cash reward of Rs 25 lakh each to 10 athletes from the state who participated in the Tokyo Olympics.

Gold medalist javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra got Rs 2 crore, silver medalist wrestler Ravi Dahiya and weightlifter Mirabai Chanu got Rs 1.5 crore, while three individual bronze medalists – shuttler PV Sindhu, boxer Lovlina Borgohain and wrestler Bajrang Punia – got Rs 1 crore. Given. crore each.

All the 19 members of Indian men’s hockey, who won bronze medals in Tokyo, received Rs 1 crore each.

Adityanath said, “We are happy that our team did its best in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. In 18 sports, India won 7 medals and 10 athletes from UP also participated in the Tokyo Games.”

The Chief Minister also mentioned the steps being taken by the state government to promote sports in Uttar Pradesh.

He said that 31 stadiums have already been built in the state and a sports university is coming up in Meerut, which will be named after the great hockey player Major Dhyan Chand.
