Yeddyurappa’s constituency Shikaripura closed as a mark of protest

Hours after Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa resigned on Monday, Shikaripura in Shivamogga district, which he has represented seven times, was cordoned off by his supporters as a mark of protest. Expressing sympathy with Yediyurappa, traders voluntarily closed their business establishments as BJP supporters demonstrated in the town.

Yeddyurappa’s supporters took to the streets raising slogans and put up cut-outs of him to show solidarity with him. The workers also condemned the BJP leaders for forcing the Lingayat leader to resign without being allowed to complete his term.

Yediyurappa had earlier resigned on Monday. He also thanked the BJP leaders for giving him the opportunity to serve as the Chief Minister for two years even though he had completed 75 years of age.

He had also said that some of his MLAs are unhappy with him.
