Virat Kohli leaves the field after injuring his knee while taking a catch during the last few overs of the RCB vs GT match in Bengaluru.

With only two weeks left for the final of the ICC World Test Championship in England, Virat Kohli injured his knee while taking a catch during an IPL 2023 match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals on Sunday.

Kohli was seen limping after this effort and was treated by the physio. He later left the field and watched the last few overs of GT’s chase of 198 from the RCB dug-out.

India are scheduled to face Australia at The Oval in London from June 7 as they launch yet another bid for a global trophy. However, RCB head coach Sanjay Bangar allayed the injury scare by confirming that Kohli’s injury is not serious.

“Yeah, he had a little knee injury. But I don’t think there is anything serious,” Bangar said at the post-match press conference.

Kohli turned back the clock with consecutive IPL hundreds and declared that he was playing his best T20 cricket again.

Bangar says Kohli has played all 14 matches for RCB this season and contributed immensely and it was bound to happen that he would have some sort of knee problem.

“Scored two back-to-back hundreds within a span of four days. He is someone who not only wants to contribute with the bat but also while fielding. He ran a lot. A few days ago he was on the field for 40 overs and today for 35 overs. He was giving his best. So it’s going to bother at some point but I don’t think it’s anything serious,” Bangar said.

Meanwhile, news agency PTI reports that Kohli is among seven Indian players who are set to fly to England on Tuesday to begin preparations for the WTC final.

Cheteshwar Pujara is already playing county cricket in England and will join the team there.
