The Delhi Police on Friday registered two FIRs against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over allegations of sexual harassment leveled against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP by seven women wrestlers.

Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal on Sunday said wrestlers staging a sit-in here demanding the arrest of the wrestling federation chief over allegations of sexual harassment are facing the plight of a recalcitrant accused and “no arrest”. in this matter.

In a tweet, he said: “Wrestlers protest: One minor, 6 others injured, One flagrant accused, A silent PMO, No arrests. A polite investigation?”

The Delhi Police on Friday registered two FIRs against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over allegations of sexual harassment leveled against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP by seven women wrestlers.

An apex court bench comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha was told by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Delhi Police, that the case would be registered on Friday.

While the first FIR related to the allegations of a minor wrestler and was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, the second related to outraging the modesty of women.

Several international wrestlers, who have brought laurels to the country, are protesting at Jantar Mantar, demanding that the government make public the findings of an inspection panel probing sexual harassment allegations against Singh.

The wrestlers have insisted that they will not leave the protest site until Singh is arrested. They resumed their sit-in last Sunday and demanded that the findings of the panel probing the allegations be made public.
