It was a “perfect and happy ending” for Nisha Dahiya as she emerged the national champion in the women’s 65kg category, a day after her dramatic “murder story” became a case of mistaken identity.

U23 World Championship bronze medalist Nisha defeated her Punjab rival Jaspreet Kaur to end the title fight in just 30 seconds.

Barring the semi-final against Haryana’s Priyanka, it turned out to be an easy day at the office for 23-year-old Nisha, who represents the Railways.

Nisha told PTI, “It is indeed a happy and perfect end to my campaign. I was under a lot of stress yesterday. I could not even sleep. I was already low on energy due to weight loss and this The incident proved to be too much to handle.” Won his third gold medal in Nationals.

It was reported that Nisha was shot dead in Sonipat, but it was later revealed that the deceased was her name Khatri and was an upcoming wrestler. Nisha’s agility and attacking moves were too hot for her opponents to handle. She stood out with her leg strikes.

“Of course, an athlete wants to be discussed and talked about, but I’m sure not that way. I want people to know about my performance and not for such strange incidents,” she said.

Nisha, coached by Arjuna Award winner Satyawart Kadian, said, “I got so many calls that I had to switch off my phone. It was getting stressful and I wanted to focus on my competition. After all, it didn’t affect my performance. ” ,

Shafali and Priyanka are expected to win bronze medals by winning their respective play-offs. If prepared well, both the youngsters are expected to have good prospects for India in the future.

Prior to the final, both the 65kg semi-finals were fast-paced and fiercely contested. Jaspreet beat Haryana’s Shefali 6-4 while Nisha beat Priyanka 7-6.

In the women’s 76kg category, 37-year-old Gursharanpreet Kaur won the gold medal after her rival Pooja Sihag rolled her right hand and left the mat in tears when the Punjab wrestler retaliated. The match ended in the first period itself.

This was the seventh gold medal in the Nationals for Gursharanpreet. The 76kg category was headed for a title clash between well-known names – veteran Kiran and Gursharanpreet – but Pooja stopped it with a 3-1 win over the Railways player.

Gursharanpreet, on the other hand, pulled off an easy win against the talented youngster Bipasha from Delhi, who won a silver medal at the recent Junior World Championships. Bipasha and Kiran won bronze medals.

The competition for women was held on Thursday in only two categories while the Greco style competition concluded on the opening day of the championship.
Sandeep of Services won the title ahead of Sarwan of Chandigarh in 55kg, while Gyanendra of SSCB emerged champion in 60kg with a win over Haryana’s Vikas.

Sagar won his third gold medal in 63kg, while Haryana’s Ashu won the title in 67kg. Haryana’s Vikas defeated Punjab’s Lovepreet to win 72kg gold.

As expected, Sajan of Services won the 77kg title and Hardeep Singh emerged the winner in 82kg.

Services team won the team championship with 195 points while Railways (175) finished runner-up. Haryana stood third with 139 points.
Two finalists in each category will represent India at the Commonwealth Championships to be held in Pretoria, South Africa from December 3 to 5.

While the gold medalist will travel at the expense of the government, the runner-up will have to travel on his own. WFI may call for trials in men’s freestyle 92kg as Deepak Punia, who was ruled out of the Nationals due to injury, has expressed interest in competing.
