Shreyanka Patil picked up four wickets as Royal Challengers Bangalore bowled out Delhi Capitals for 113 in the Women’s Premier League final.

Shreyanka Patil starred with the ball as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) bowled out Delhi Capitals (DC) for 113 in the final of the 2024 Women’s Premier League (WPL) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Sunday.

DC were cruising at 64 for no loss in 43 balls before they committed harakiri, losing 10 wickets for just 49 runs in front of a 28,781 capacity crowd, who looked divided in their loyalties.

Shreyanka took four wickets and was ably supported by the other spinners in the side – Sophie Molineux and Asha Shobhana, who took three and two wickets respectively.

“I really enjoyed bowling in the middle. They got a really good start. We kept saying it was matter of one wicket. And when it fell, we said okay another one. We kept fighting till the end. Enjoyed each and every moment so far,” Shreyanka Patil said at the mid-innings break after being presented the Purple Cap.

“There is something in the wicket. I’m a different beast when there’s some turn,” she added.

Australia’s left-arm spinner Sophie Molineux (3/20) started DC’s downfall, picking up three wickets in the eighth over. She scalped the wickets of Shafali Verma, Jemmimah Rodrigues and Alice Capsey, the last two wickets even put her in the line for a hat-trick which eventually didn’t happen.

Thereafter, the hosts never really recovered, losing wickets at regular intervals, courtesy some loose shots and off-spinner Shreyanka Patil’s (4/12) exploits in the middle and late overs hastened their end.

After reaching 72 for 3 at the halfway mark, DC’s mainstay Meg Lanning, who was trying to resurrect the innings, departed, trapped leg before Shreyanka but not after she wasted a review.

Thereafter, the home team kept losing wickets in search of unnecessary big shots to stumble to 81 for six.

It was mayhem for DC as they lost seven wickets for mere 23 runs in that period.

“Playing against MI, I just got a little hairline fracture (on left hand). I missed two matches unfortunately, but credit to physios to put me back on the field. When I saw her, it was amazing to watch her bowl in the nets only (talking about Molineux),” Shreyanka added.
