IPL chairman Arun Kumar Dhumal on Monday confirmed that the first season of the Women’s Premier League will be played in Mumbai from March 4 to 26.

A new chapter will be added to the history book of Indian cricket when the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) takes place this year. Amidst the excitement, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal has announced the dates and tentative venues of the tournament.

According to a report in PTI, the much-awaited inaugural season of WPL will be played in Mumbai from March 4 to 26. The Brabourne Stadium and DY Patil Stadium will host all the matches of the tournament, which are expected to be played between the Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians-owned franchises.

“The Women’s Premier League will be played in Mumbai from March 4 to 26,” Dhumal told PTI on Monday.

Dhumal also confirmed that the auction will take place in Mumbai on February 13, a day after India’s T20I. World Cup match against Pakistan.

With five teams selling Rs 4669.99 crore and BCCI’s media rights for Rs 951 crore, WPL is the second biggest T20 league in the world after the Indian Premier League.

Apart from the three IPL team owners – Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals – Capri Global Holdings (Lucknow) and Adani Sportsline have bought five franchises.

Around 1500 players have registered for the league and the final list is expected to be released later this week.

In the player auction to be held next month, each team will have Rs 12 crore and will have to buy a minimum of 15 players and a maximum of 18 players. A maximum of five foreign players will be allowed, including one from an associate member country. In playing XI.

A total of 22 matches will be played in the inaugural season with the top-ranked team in the league stage directly qualifying for the final. The second and third place teams will compete for a place in the title match.
