Ellyse, Heather, Smriti and unbeaten Meghan Schutt led the fightback for RCB with the bat but the target was a bit high.

Chasing a mammoth 224, the Smriti Mandhana-led side posted 163 for eight in 20 overs.

Earlier, opener Shafali and Aussie skipper Lanning scored brilliant knocks of 84 and 72 respectively as DC posted their second successive WPL 200-plus score. Mumbai Indians posted 207 for five as they bowled out Gujarat Giants for 64 in their opening WPL match on Saturday.

While India’s young opener played some power-packed strokes in her 84, which came off just 45 balls (10 fours and four sixes), Australia captain Lanning was more clinical in her shots, hitting 43 runs in just 43 balls. Scored 72 runs (14 fours) as the duo destroyed the RCB bowling in a tailspin.

Their 162-run partnership ended in equally dramatic fashion, both dismissed in the 15th over, England off-spinner Heather Knight taking two runs off the third and fifth balls of her second over.
