World War III will be ‘nuclear and destructive’, warns Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov

new Delhi: Amid rising tensions between Russia and Ukraine, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday that if a third world war occurs, it will involve nuclear weapons and would be disastrous, RIA news agency quoted by Reuters reported.

Russia, which launched a special military operation against Ukraine last week, will face a “real threat” if Kyiv acquires a nuclear weapon, Foreign Minister Lavrov said.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the nuclear deterrence force to be on alert. Even before the attack on Ukraine, Putin had threatened in his speech that “you will never see the consequences” if any country tried to interfere in the issue of Russia and Ukraine.

Russia is continuously firing missiles at Ukraine. There are 15 nuclear plants in Ukraine, if a single plant is attacked, there will be destruction. Just a few days ago, when the Russian military took control of Ukraine’s Chernobyl nuclear plant, Ukraine feared destruction all over the world.

President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote earlier on Twitter, “Our defenders are giving their lives so that the tragedy of 1986 does not repeat.”

“This is a declaration of war against the whole of Europe.”

Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry also warned of the potential for “another ecological disaster” at the site.
