In the United Nations Security Council, India attacked China’s strategy of sinking neighboring countries into its debt in the name of development and then forcing them to follow their instructions. Without naming China, India on Tuesday told the UNSC that it has always tried to promote global solidarity while respecting national priorities and ensured that India’s aid does not make anyone “indebted”. However, it is clear from India’s statement that it has attacked China in gestures.
The Minister of State for External Affairs, Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, during an open debate on the topic “Adherence to International Peace and Security: Exclusion, Inequality and Conflict” at the Security Council, led by the current President Mexico, said whether India would follow the “Neighbourhood First” policy. Whether with its neighbors or African partners or other developing countries, “India remains and will continue to be a source of strong support to help them do better and empower them.”
Singh said, “India has always strived to foster global solidarity with development partnership efforts while respecting national priorities and ensuring that our assistance remains demand-driven, job creation and capacity building. Contribute to it and not create a situation like making anyone indebted.
Singh’s statement is being seen as an indirect attack on China.
There is concern around the world about China increasing debt to neighboring countries through its ambitious Belt and Road projects. China is investing heavily in the name of infrastructure development in countries from Asia to Africa and Europe. The Donald Trump government of America has openly criticized the BRI project and it has also been said that due to this strategy of China, small countries are becoming big debtors, which has threatened their sovereignty.
