World Lung Cancer Day 2021: Signs that may be your body’s way of indicating early stage lung cancer

Lung cancer is the second most common type of cancer in the world and the cause of many cancer-related deaths in men and women. World Lung Cancer Day is observed every year on 1st August to raise awareness about the disease and to inform people about preventive measures that can help in keeping the disease under control. The day also highlights the signs and symptoms that can help people diagnose lung cancer at an early stage. While lung cancer is a very dangerous disease, treatment at an early stage can prevent its fatal effects.

Here are the symptoms that could be a sign of illness:

persistent cough

One of the most common and early symptoms of lung cancer is a cough. If you have a persistent cough that doesn’t go away even after taking medicine, it could be a sign of a bigger problem. It is advisable to consult a doctor and go through the diagnosis to be clear. This persistent cough is more likely to be a sign of early-stage lung cancer if you are a smoker. Coughing up blood is a strong sign of lung cancer

Pain in chest

If you have pain in your chest for no apparent reason, it could be a sign that your body is telling you something. When a lung tumor causes tightness in the chest, you may experience pain, especially when taking a deep breath, coughing, or laughing. Pain indicates that the tumor has spread to the lining of the lungs.

difficulty breathing

Another sign of the early stages of lung cancer in your body is shortness of breath. The presence of cancerous tumors blocks the airways and puts pressure on the lungs thereby obstructing the normal functioning of the respiratory system.

unexpected weight loss

The presence of cancer cells in the body can cause loss of appetite and unintended weight loss. If you are experiencing persistent weight loss despite not making any changes to your diet or routine, it could be a sign of a worrying condition and you should consult a doctor about it.

hoarseness

Lung cancer can alter the normal movement of air through your trachea and vocal cords, causing changes in your voice. You may notice an increased hoarseness or hoarseness in the texture of your voice.
