World Hindi Day: History

The first World Hindi Day convention was organized on January 10, 1975 in Nagpur, a city in the state of Maharashtra. 122 delegates from 30 countries participated in this grand event. This day is celebrated in India since the year 2003. The Ministry of External Affairs started the tradition of celebrating World Hindi Day in other countries in 2006 with the aim of promoting this language across the world.

World Hindi Day: Significance

The language gets its name from the Persian word ‘Hind’ which means ‘Land of the Indus’. The language is spoken in India, Trinidad, Nepal, Guyana, Mauritius and other countries.

The Hindi language is respected and respected on both occasions but their dates are different. While we celebrate World Hindi Day on 10 January, National Hindi Day is celebrated on 14 September.
